High-Channel Dante AoIP Monitoring in a Compact 1U Design
The Nixer RL256 Dante is a 1U rack-mounted monitoring and mixing unit engineered for high-density Audio-over-IP environments. Supporting up to 256 Dante channels at 48kHz (128 channels at 96kHz), this compact unit offers professionals a flexible, all-in-one monitoring solution for live production, broadcast operations, and networked audio systems. Whether you're tracking critical audio feeds or configuring complex mixes, the RL256 Dante provides a powerful and responsive platform built for demanding workflows.
Dual Operation Modes for Mixing and Instant Listening
This unit features two distinct modes to match your operational needs. In Mixing Mode, users can route up to 259 total channels (including AES and mic input) into a stereo mix. For faster on-the-fly monitoring, Listen Mode provides immediate solo access—simply tap a channel to route it directly to the stereo output while clearing any previous selection. Both modes ensure efficient control without the need for external software or patching tools.
Flexible Output Options for Any Professional Setup
The RL256 Dante includes onboard full-range speakers, a 3.5mm headphone output, balanced line outputs, and AES digital output—all accessible directly from the unit. When headphones are inserted, internal speakers are automatically muted for private listening. The stereo mix output can also be sent to Dante AoIP streams, making this a versatile tool for centralized audio monitoring and distribution across a networked system.
Touchscreen Interface with High-Resolution Feedback
An integrated 6.6" letterbox LCD touchscreen provides detailed visual control over routing, metering, and settings. With a 1440x240 resolution and 24-bit color, the screen clearly presents real-time feedback. The intuitive interface allows quick navigation of channel selections, output options, and system status, streamlining the workflow without needing an external display or mouse.
Robust Connectivity and Redundancy for Networked Audio
On the rear panel, the RL256 Dante offers 4x Primary and 4x Secondary RJ45 ports for redundant AoIP input paths. Additional connections include AES input (3-pin female XLR), stereo line outputs (3-pin male XLR), and AES output (3-pin male XLR). These outputs can be configured to follow speaker/headphone volume or mute settings, offering flexibility based on monitoring preferences.
Redundant Power for Mission-Critical Applications
To meet the power demands of professional environments, the RL256 supports dual DC inputs (2.5mm, 24V @ 2A), with secure screw-lock connectors to prevent accidental disconnection. Using both inputs allows redundant operation to avoid downtime. The unit can be powered via the NIX00629 adapter, providing dependable performance in control rooms, mobile units, or fixed installations.
Firmware and Headphone Port Accessibility
Firmware updates are performed via a front-panel USB micro AB port, ensuring that system software remains current. A front-facing 3.5mm jack provides immediate access for headphone monitoring, giving engineers quick control without reaching behind the rack or altering setup configurations.
