Two-Channel Bass Preamp Designed for Switching and Tone Control
The Radial Engineering Bassbone OD is a dual-channel bass preamp pedal designed for bass players who need to switch between instruments while maintaining consistent tone, gain structure, and output control. It functions as the central command hub for live bass rigs, allowing seamless toggling between two basses, pickup systems, or signal types while feeding both an on-stage amplifier and a front-of-house PA system with professional-grade audio.
Independent Input Channels Optimized for Electric and Upright Bass
Each of the Bassbone OD’s two input channels is engineered for specific bass applications. Channel A includes a PZB booster that raises input impedance to 10 MΩ, making it ideal for upright basses and piezo-equipped instruments that require high-impedance loading. Channel B features Radial’s Drag Control load correction, allowing passive electric basses to retain their natural tone and feel when connected to modern pedalboards and active electronics.
Integrated EQ and Low-Frequency Filtering for Stage Control
Both channels provide level controls, passive-interactive EQ sections, and dedicated low-frequency filters to help manage excessive resonance and stage rumble. This allows players to fine-tune their sound for different instruments and venues without changing amplifier settings. The ability to blend both channels together makes the Bassbone OD especially useful for dual-pickup bass systems or mixed piezo and magnetic setups.
Built-In Overdrive and Shared Effects Loop
The Bassbone OD includes an onboard bass overdrive circuit with adjustable drive and tone controls, adding grit and harmonic texture without sacrificing low-end clarity. A footswitch allows the overdrive to be engaged independently or combined with the effects loop. Both input channels can share a single effects chain using the integrated send and return loop, simplifying pedalboard layouts and reducing cable clutter.
Professional Outputs for Amplifier and PA Integration
A 1/4-inch instrument-level output feeds the player’s stage amplifier, while a balanced low-impedance XLR output sends a clean signal directly to the PA or recording console. The DI output can be set pre or post effects depending on whether the player wants their processing included in the house mix. A dedicated tuner output works with the mute footswitch, enabling silent tuning during performances.
Additional Monitoring and Practice Capabilities
For rehearsal and personal monitoring, the Bassbone OD includes a built-in headphone amplifier with a 3.5mm output. This makes it easy to practice silently or monitor signal changes without relying on an external amp. Combined with its rugged construction and intuitive footswitch layout, the Bassbone OD is built for consistent performance in demanding live environments.
