Balanced AB Audio Switcher for Microphone Control
The Radial Engineering Relay XO is a balanced AB audio switcher designed to route a single microphone or balanced line-level signal to two separate destinations. It allows performers, presenters, and engineers to instantly switch a mic between a main PA system and an alternate destination such as monitors, crew communications, or a second console input without changing cables or signal paths.
Ideal Solution for Live Performance Communication
The Relay XO is especially useful for vocalists using in-ear monitors who need a private way to communicate with musicians or technical staff. With the press of a switch, the microphone can be routed away from the front-of-house mix and into a monitor or intercom channel, keeping off-mic communication discreet and controlled during live performances.
Passive Signal Path for Uncolored Audio
Built with a fully passive signal path, the Relay XO uses a direct copper wire connection with no transformers, buffers, or active electronics in the audio chain. This design ensures the microphone signal passes through without tonal coloration, distortion, or added noise, making it suitable for both microphone-level and line-level balanced audio signals.
Flexible Switching with Local or Remote Control
Switching between outputs can be done using the onboard side-mounted pushbutton or via remote control using a compatible footswitch or external contact closure. A locking XLR-to-1/4-inch combo jack allows connection to optional Radial footswitches, giving performers hands-free control during live shows or presentations.
Expandable Routing for Multi-Channel Systems
The Relay XO includes a remote link connection that allows multiple units to be connected together. This makes it possible to build stereo or multi-channel switching systems where several microphones or balanced signals can be switched simultaneously, offering scalable routing options for more complex setups.
Rugged Steel Construction for Touring Reliability
Housed in Radial’s signature 14-gauge steel enclosure with an internal I-beam structure, the Relay XO is built for long-term durability. The reinforced chassis protects internal components from stress and impact, making it well suited for touring rigs, installed sound systems, and professional stage environments.
