Rupert Neve Signature Active Ribbon Microphone Design
The sE Electronics RNR1 is a high-performance active ribbon microphone developed in collaboration with legendary designer Rupert Neve. It is built to deliver natural, highly detailed sound reproduction for studio recording, broadcast, and critical listening applications. By combining classic ribbon microphone characteristics with modern active electronics, the RNR1 provides a clean, powerful signal suitable for professional audio environments.
Extended Frequency Response for Detailed Capture
Unlike traditional ribbon microphones, the RNR1 offers an exceptionally wide frequency response ranging from 20 Hz to 25 kHz. This expanded range allows the microphone to capture subtle high-frequency detail while retaining the smooth, natural midrange ribbon microphones are known for. The result is condenser-like clarity without harshness, making it well suited for vocals, acoustic instruments, strings, brass, and room recording.
Low Noise Active Electronics with High Headroom
The RNR1 uses a custom-designed active circuit and hand-wound transformers to deliver extremely low noise levels and substantial headroom. This active design removes the need for high-gain preamps, ensuring consistent performance across a wide range of audio interfaces and consoles. The microphone operates on standard 48V phantom power while maintaining the integrity of the ribbon element.
Figure 8 Polar Pattern for Versatile Recording Techniques
With a figure 8 polar pattern, the RNR1 captures sound equally from the front and rear while rejecting sound from the sides. This makes it ideal for mid-side recording, room ambience capture, and dual-source setups. The symmetrical pickup pattern also contributes to the microphone’s balanced tonal response in complex recording spaces.
Low Frequency Rolloff for Cleaner Recordings
A built-in low-frequency rolloff switch helps manage proximity effect and unwanted low-end rumble. This control is especially useful when recording close-miked vocals, guitar cabinets, or instruments in untreated rooms, allowing engineers to maintain clarity without external filtering.
Professional Build with Included Accessories
Finished in a sleek black housing, the RNR1 is engineered for long-term studio use. It includes a dedicated shockmount to reduce mechanical vibration and handling noise, along with a custom wooden flight case for secure storage and transport. These accessories ensure the microphone remains protected in both studio and mobile recording environments.
