Flagship Tube Condenser Microphone for Studio Recording
The sE Electronics RNT is a flagship large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone developed in close collaboration with Rupert Neve to deliver classic studio tone with modern performance and reliability. Designed for professional recording environments, the RNT captures vocals and instruments with exceptional depth, clarity, and dimensional detail, making it suitable for lead vocals, acoustic instruments, orchestral sources, and critical studio applications.
Handcrafted Capsule with Natural Sonic Character
At the heart of the RNT is a handcrafted, gold-sputtered 1" true condenser dual-diaphragm capsule, individually tuned at sE Electronics’ factory. This precision capsule design provides a balanced, natural frequency response that accurately represents the source without artificial coloration. The dual-diaphragm architecture enables flexible polar pattern control while maintaining consistent tonal character across all settings.
Nine Selectable Polar Patterns for Recording Control
The RNT offers nine selectable polar patterns, including omnidirectional, cardioid, figure-8, and multiple intermediate positions. This wide range of pickup options allows engineers to optimize isolation, ambience, and off-axis response for each recording situation. Whether capturing intimate vocals, room ambience, duets, or ensemble performances, the adjustable polar patterns help control bleed and room interaction with precision.
Tube and Transformer Signal Path Designed by Rupert Neve
The microphone features a hand-selected ECC82 tube housed within the mic body, optimized to drive a custom Rupert Neve Designs output transformer. A second Rupert Neve Designs transformer is located in the external power supply, built using the same discrete operational amplifiers found in the Rupert Neve Designs 5088 recording console. This dual-transformer topology delivers wide bandwidth, large headroom, low noise, and the harmonic richness associated with classic tube microphones.
Fully Discrete Class-A Electronics with Expanded Dynamic Range
Both active stages of the RNT utilize fully discrete Class-A circuitry, ensuring consistent performance and musical response across a wide dynamic range. Three selectable gain stages provide a total of 24 dB of active gain adjustment, allowing the microphone to handle everything from subtle ambient recordings to close-miked loud vocals and instruments without distortion. This flexibility makes the RNT suitable for virtually any studio source.
Integrated Filtering and Precision Control
Two active low-cut filters at 40 Hz and 80 Hz are included to reduce unwanted low-frequency rumble, footfall noise, or proximity buildup. These filters help maintain clarity at the source and reduce the need for corrective EQ during mixing. Polar pattern selection and gain controls are located on the external power supply for precise, repeatable adjustments during sessions.
Premium Construction with Complete Accessory Package
The RNT features an all-metal microphone housing designed to minimize electrical interference while providing long-term durability. The system includes a custom shockmount, external power supply, 8-pin XLR cable, wooden microphone storage box, and a protective flight case. This complete package ensures safe transport, reliable operation, and professional presentation in studio environments.
