The Sound Devices 833 is a portable multitrack mixer-recorder purpose-built for location sound engineers, production mixers, and field recordists who need uncompromising audio quality in a compact, rugged form factor. It offers six ultralow-noise mic preamps, eight input channels, and records up to 12 tracks simultaneously to three storage media. With its intuitive interface and extensive routing flexibility, the 833 brings flagship-level performance to a smaller footprint that’s ready for bag work, camera rigs, or studio use.

Simultaneous Recording of 8 Inputs and 4 Buses

The 833 allows recording of all eight input channels and four separate buses at up to 192 kHz in BWF format with embedded timecode. You can arm or disarm tracks during recording and assign sources independently to media and output buses. This makes it easy to route isolated tracks to post, custom mixdowns to camera, and unique monitor mixes to talent or crew.

Premium 32-Bit A/D Conversion for Wide Dynamic Range

With 32-bit A/D converters and Class-A mic preamps, the 833 ensures pristine recordings free from distortion or noise—regardless of whether signals are extremely loud or extremely soft. You can safely record in volatile environments without worrying about clipping or under-modulation. This hardware-grade dynamic range sets the 833 apart from traditional field recorders.

Advanced Dugan Automixing with Dual Group Support

For dialog-heavy productions, the 833 includes 8-channel Dugan Automixing. Unused microphones are automatically attenuated in real time, reducing background noise and improving intelligibility. Two independent Dugan groups can be mixed simultaneously, providing essential tools for unscripted content, reality TV, or roundtable setups.

Internal SSD and Dual SD Card Slots for Redundant Capture

With a built-in 256GB SSD and two SD card slots, the 833 supports triple-media recording. You can capture redundant tracks, create separate dailies, or assign specific tracks to each medium. Configurable routing ensures full control over what gets recorded where, while minimizing risk of data loss in the field.

Comprehensive Output and Monitoring Options

The 833 features versatile analog and digital I/O, including XLR and TA3 outputs that support mic, line, and AES3 digital signals. Headphone and headset ports offer flexible monitoring, including return feeds, slate mic integration, and coms. A TA3 com return jack and high-powered headphone amps ensure clear monitoring in any situation.

Ready for Wireless Integration and Remote Control

The 833 is fully compatible with SuperSlot receivers and the A20-Mini transmitter via SL-2 or SL-6 integration. Using GainForward architecture, gain staging is handled directly from the recorder, eliminating the need to adjust transmitter gain. Remote control is supported via SD-Remote for Android and USB MIDI surfaces, giving you control over transport, metadata, and fader levels without touching the unit.
