The Sound Devices 888 is a compact yet powerful 20-track portable mixer-recorder engineered for professional film, broadcast, and location audio applications. Record 20 Tracks with Full Routing Control
Capture up to 16 inputs and 4 independent buses simultaneously in 32-bit floating point at sample rates up to 192 kHz. The 888 supports mono or poly BWF file formats, embedded timecode, and metadata tagging for efficient post workflows. Inputs and buses are fully routable, allowing operators to build custom mixes, send stems to camera, and create isolated recordings simultaneously.

Flexible I/O with Dante, Analog, and AES3 Support
With eight analog preamps (four XLR, four TA3) and Dante/AES67 integration over Ethernet, the 888 gives you serious routing power in a compact unit. The XLR inputs also support AES3/AES42 digital audio, making it ideal for hybrid analog-digital setups. Eight additional TA3 outputs and 3.5mm unbalanced out support custom routing to any device in your kit, whether it's a camera hop, IFB transmitter, or boom op's monitor.

32-Bit Converters and Premium Mic Preamps for Clean Recordings
The 888 is equipped with precision 32-bit A/D converters and Class-A preamps offering up to 76 dB of gain with -131 dBV noise floor. Even in fast-paced, unpredictable environments, you can capture low-level dialogue or sudden transients without distortion. Each channel features independent EQ, polarity, limiting, and high-pass filtering, enabling detailed control of tone and dynamics directly at the recorder.

Built-In Automixing with 16-Channel Dugan and MixAssist
When recording in unscripted or multi-mic environments, the 888’s integrated 16-channel Dugan Automixer and MixAssist algorithm automatically attenuate unused channels, maintaining clarity and reducing room noise. Two independent automix groups allow you to tailor processing for separate zones or scenes.

Internal SSD with Redundant Dual SD Card Capture
The built-in 256GB SSD is paired with dual SD card slots for redundant or split-format recording. This enables workflows like capturing WAV on the SSD, creating transcription-ready AAC on SD1, and archiving safety copies on SD2. Track-to-media routing is fully user-configurable.

Versatile Monitoring, Remote Control, and Power Options
The 888 includes 1/4", 3.5mm, and TA5 headphone/headset jacks with high output for field monitoring, along with coms support for slate and intercom. Power it via dual L-Series batteries or DC input, and manage your sessions wirelessly with SD-Remote for Android or a USB MIDI controller. Integration with Sound Devices SL-2 and A10-RX provides GainForward compatibility for direct gain control from the recorder, skipping transmitter-side adjustments.
